International Projection Mapping Convention “TOKYO LIGHTS 2023” Held on September 9 & 10, 2023
Now in its third year, “TOKYO LIGHTS” is a festival of lights that gathers hope from all over the world and connects us to the future. It was held at the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery and the Rubber-ball Baseball Grounds of Meiji Jingu Gaien. “TOKYO LIGHTS 2023” consists of “1minute Projection Mapping Competition,” a high-level international competition in which short-form projection mapping works in the 1-minute range compete, and a light festival filled with lights and music.
Note: Projection mapping is a technology and expression that uses projectors and other projection equipment to project and adjust images according to objects such as three-dimensional objects.

This year's 11th international competition was based on the theme of "LINK." This competition, which attracts international attention, received 281 entries from 58 countries and regions around the world, the largest number ever, and the finalists’ projection mapping works were projected on the walls of the Meiji Jingu Gaien Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery.

At the Meiji Jingu Gaien Rubber-ball Baseball Grounds, a “Tokyo Lights” area that fuses light art and music was set up.

In the “Tokyo Lights” area, there was a grass playground named “PLAY GROUND” where visitors were able to enjoy light patterns that moved according to the movements of people and the changing colors of the images.

In the “Tokyo Lights” area, a space was also created linked to the flower arrangement (ikebana) works of the Ikenobo School.

Tokyo Governor Koike also took the stage at the final award ceremony to congratulate the Romanian creators who won the Grand Prix and presented them with the Tokyo Governor’s Award.
TOKYO MOKUNAVI, a base for disseminating the charm of Tokyo trees, Launched on September 15, 2023
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has opened “TOKYO MOKUNAVI,” a base for promoting the appeal of Tama lumber and expanding its use, located on the 7th floor of Shinjuku Park Tower. At this facility, products using “Tokyo trees” will be exhibited and forests and forestry in the Tama region will be introduced.

At the "Let’s Choose 2025 Deaflympics Games Emblem!" held on September 3, the emblem for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics was decided by a vote of junior high and high school students in Tokyo. The winner, Tada Ibuki who is a senior student at Tsukuba University of Technology, met with Governor Koike on September 20. Tada commented that she designed the work with the theme of "circle," which represents the connection between people.
First Event! Welfare Facilities Face Off Remotely through Avatar Robots on September 27, 2023
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is implementing a project (Para-Sports Remote Participation Project) that allows people with severe disabilities who have difficulty going out to participate in sports activities remotely by utilizing avatar robots placed at sports venues. On September 27, a competition-style exchange event using avatar robots was held for the first time between social welfare facilities.

The avatar robot is operated remotely using digital technology. Therefore, competitors can participate in games even if not physically present in a sports venue. The photo shows avatar robots holding the flag of each facility are playing a soccer game.

This is the award and closing ceremony. The points earned in the game determined the standings, and each team was awarded a medal.
