July 15, 2022 – The 37th Tokyo Metropolitan Art Exhibition for the Disabled – Interactions in Beauty –1/4
The 37th Tokyo Metropolitan Art Exhibition for the Disabled – Interactions in Beauty – was held at the Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store from July 15 through July 19. The art exhibition is held every year for the purpose of promoting the participation of people with disabilities in artistic and cultural activities, discovering and developing unique talents, and advancing the understanding of Tokyoites toward the disabled.

On July 23, a ceremony to celebrate the first anniversary of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games TOKYO FORWARD was held at the Japan National Stadium. Governor Koike, who attended the ceremony, said, “It has been one year since the Tokyo 2020 Games successfully ended as a safe and secure event. The Games left many legacies, such as efforts for the realization of an inclusive society, a path toward a sustainable society, and how to enjoy sports with advanced technologies. Tokyo is now on a fresh starting line. With the concept of “TOKYO FORWARD,” let’s create a new future together through sports.”

On July 24, a get-together was held to promote friendly communication between people who have evacuated from Ukraine and are now living in a Tokyo Metropolitan housing facilty and the residents there. They enjoyed musical instrument performances.
As of the date of the event, 196 people have been evacuated from Ukraine to the Tokyo Metropolitan housing. This kind of event will continue to be held in the future as well.

On July 31, the general opening ceremony of the 46th All Japan Senior High School Cultural Festival, an annual feast of the arts and culture served up by students from high schools across the country, was held at the Tokyo International Forum. This was the first time for Tokyo to host the festival.
For five days until August 4, under the theme “The Town of Edo, Flowers of Luminous Culture,” the students engaged in performances which they had practiced diligently in 23 fields, including theater, brass bands, and literature.
