On June 18, an event to celebrate the reopening of the Oi Hockey Stadium “Join in the fun of sports & recreation. Get set, go!” was held at Oi Pier Central Seaside Park. Top athletes gave a demonstration match and visitors experienced a variety of sports and recreation programs.

On June 20, “Toward the Bright Future! Pandas Born at Ueno,” an event to celebrate the birthday of giant pandas Xiao Xiao & Lei Lei, was held at Ueno Zoo. At the event, Governor Koike said, “Healthy twin pandas were born on June 23 last year and they have their first birthday this month. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the people who have watched the growth of the two pandas with deep affection. I hope the twin pandas will give you a sense of energy, renewal, and hope for a bright future.”

June 25, 2022 Train Running Drills Using Power Storage Units at Metropolitan Subway 1/4
On June 24 after the last scheduled train, the Bureau of Transportation carried out train running drills on the Shinjuku Line, anticipating regional blackouts. In the drills a train that was stopped half-way between stations managed to push on to the next station using a power storage unit. The Metropolitan Subway has been promoting brownout measures by turning off some of the lights at stations, and it is also calling on customers for cooperation.

On June 29, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government held a Childcare Leave Promotion Summit to discuss the necessity of developing a social environment where employees feel comfortable and confident taking childcare leave and the importance for males to participate in childraising.
Governor Koike announced the nickname of childcare leave: Iku-gyo, changed from Iku-kyu in Japanese. (Iku means childcare, kyu means leave and gyo means work in Japanese.)
“Iku-kyu” gives the sense of leaving from work. To change this association, TMG asked the public for suggestions for a new term. The new nickname was selected from over 8,800 entries.
